Post Workout Recovery: Part 1
People lying in a pool of sweat is a common sight after a CrossFit workout, but as tempting as it is, collapsing into a heap on the floor does not help your recovery.
Immediately after you finish a workout, your heart rate is still elevated and fluid is pumping out faster than your body’s return system can accommodate.
Our heart does an amazing job of pumping fluid out to our muscles, but the return system relies on muscle contraction and movement.
You can help this more passive return system with an Active Recovery, allowing your heart rate to gradually come down as you assist pumping the fluid back from your arms and legs.
It does not have to be complicated, and definitely should not be challenging. Try something as simple as walking or a stationary bike.
